Marihuana Mail

Met een nogal provocerende naam probeert Grzegorz Pawlik uit Polen ( e-mail ) een nieuw mail-programma uit. Het bestaat in twee versies - een engelstalige en een poolstalige. Vooral de laatste is voor mij interessant omdat het de keuze biedt tussen US-ASCII en ISO-8859-2. Nog leuker is dat Grzegorz de moeite heeft genomen om een 'systeem-font' om te bouwen niet naar - wat de meesten in Polen deden - de Atari PL standaard maar naar ISO-8859-2 [althans voorzover nuttig voor Polen ;)]. Het is daarom zo leuk omdat de Poolse tekens nu ook zichtbaar worden in menu-balken e.d. Grzegorz geeft duidelijk aan dat hij het programma heeft geschreven met het oog op de bescheiden Atari bezitters: This is a simple mail client for Atari ST computers. By "Atari ST computer" I do not mean "Falcon/Hades/Milan/etc. computer" - Marijuana Mail works on and actually has been designed for plain 1040ST with 1MB RAM. However, since it does not use any Line-A calls, it may turn out that MJM will work on other TOS-compatible computers. It is a GEM application. It means that you have full access to Desk Accesories (but not while MJM downloads your mail...).

Voor wat de status van het programma betreft: Marijuana Mail if freeware. You don't expect me to demand any money for that shit, do you? Well, I know MJM is *not* a great application. I have write it mainly for myself, since all other e-mail clients for Atari required such things as N.AES, VGA display, AV_SERVER and so on... but I just wanted an e-mail client, and i always thought there is little connection between VGA display and sending e-mail. Well, coming back to MJM status: as I said, it is freeware, and it means you may put it on your webpage, share it with your girlfriend, give it to the people on the street for free, etc. You may also have one copy of Marijuana Mail for your own use, it is legal :)) But you *cannot* change the contents of the archive. It is not public domain. If it were, I would include the sources. You *cannot* put it on cover disk or cd-rom without my permission. You *cannot* sell MJM - give it for free if anyone needs it. En over de naam: I do not advocate smoking marijuana by calling that application Marijuana Mail.... Just in case you wanted to send DEA agents (or whatever they are called) to me. In fact it need not to be advocated, since everybody smokes it.
