Vertaalbureau Dziewońska Zeker een kwart van de tijd die ik de afgelopen jaren achter de Atari heb doorgebracht had te maken met font-perikelen. Eind 1993 haalde de hoofdredacteur van het tijdschrift ST me over om wat ervaringen op papier te zetten voor zijn blad. Er volgde een lange reeks artikelen. Dit verhaal is bedoeld om iets van het leerproces ter lering ende vermaak over te brengen op anderen. Vandaar ook de titel van het verhaal: Avond/turen met Fonts. Zowel het eerste motief de ruimere font keuze als het tweede motief aanpassing font aan de eigen eisen komen uitgebreid aan de orde. Bovendien komen een groot aantal zaken aan de orde die slechts zijdelings met fonts van doen hebben. |
I bought my first Atari in February 1989 - a Mega ST2 - and was lucky to start off with a word-processor that was able to use fonts that could be adapted. I spent most of my computer-time in the first three years trying to get a grip on the Polish characters issue. I only dread that I should go through a similar period in a Macintosh or Windows 95 environment. In 1993 the Editor in Chief of the Dutch Atari magazine ST suggested that it was about time for me write an article for them. The first thing that occurred to me what the idea of writing down for others what I had gone through struggling and fighting. The article turned out into a series [some 20 installments so far in january 1998]. Apart from the printed version I started to re-vamp the article in the ST-Guide and HTML format for obvious purposes. |
